Go Green!- Zomato launched “Pure veg mode” Fleet

Deepinder Goyal, the founder and CEO of Zomato, sets out to deliver orders.

In a series of posts on X, formerly Twitter, Goyal said that India has the world’s greatest percentage of vegetarians, and he added that these new features were developed in response to their comments.

Zomato, a food-delivery website, announced a ‘Pure Veg Mode’ and a ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ on Tuesday for consumers who wish to eat only vegetarian meals.

“India has the world’s highest population of vegetarians, and one of the most important feedback we’ve received from them is that they are extremely concerned about how their food is cooked and handled. To address their dietary needs, we are today releasing a “Pure Veg Mode” and a “Pure Veg Fleet” on Zomato for clients who prefer a completely vegetarian diet,”

said the Zomato CEO.

On microblogging platform X, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal stated, “Pure Veg Mode will consist of curation of restaurants that serve only pure vegetarian food and will exclude all restaurants that serve any non-vegetarian food item.”

Goyal confirmed the move by highlighting feedback from vegetarian clients who are very concerned about how their food is cooked and handled.

The 100% Veg Fleet will only accept orders from restaurants that serve 100% vegetarian food. Essentially, this means that a non-veg meal or a vegetarian meal delivered by a non-veg restaurant will not fit into the green delivery box designated for the Pure Veg Fleet.

Goyal stated that the move is not intended to serve or exclude anyone’s religious or political preferences.

According to Goyal, the Gurugram-based company intends to introduce more specialized fleets for specific customer demands, such as a cake delivery fleet equipped with hydraulic balancers to prevent cakes from becoming smudged during delivery.

Goyal said the launch of the ‘pure veg’ fleet received a “completely positive response” for Zomato.

This feature will be brought in around the country over the following few weeks.

Speaking at the Startup Mahakumbh in New Delhi on Monday, Goyal stated that Blinkit, Zomato’s quick-commerce branch, will outgrow its food-delivery business in a year.

In an interview with Info Edge cofounder and vice-chairman Sanjeev Bikhchandani, who also sits on Zomato’s board, Goyal stated, “For us, it’s all about how we disrupt our businesses… we have a business plan competition wherein we will offer fund to a small team, which will disrupt the businesses we’re involved in.”

“This will result in Zomato version 5 or Blinkit version 2. Blinkit is part of Zomato version 4, and it will outgrow Zomato in a year,” he added.

Zomato reported its first quarterly profit in April-June FY24, but Goyal claimed the company entered a loss-making phase due to early funding.
